Nancy Mvogo Mbala
Nancy joined NSBHF as a paralegal in June 2026 after graduating from the University of Pennsylvania with a B.A. in Political Science and Africana Studies. At Penn, she was President of the Black Student League and Africana Undergraduate Advisory Board. Nancy's academic work focused on race, policing, and the criminal legal system. Her honors thesis examined the expansion of RICO prosecutions against rap artists and the criminalization of Black expression. She also served as a Teaching Assistant in the Legal Studies and Business Ethics Department and as a Research Assistant to Pulitzer Prize-winning historian Dr. Marcia Chatelain, where she researched the overlooked contributions of Black women to the 1963 March on Washington.
Before joining NSBHF, Nancy worked as a Research Assistant at the NAACP Legal Defense Fund's Thurgood Marshall Institute, where she researched and documented police misconduct settlements for the National Police Funding Database. She also interned in Senator Bob Casey's office, supporting work on federal judiciary and criminal justice issues, and with the Philadelphia District Attorney's Office, where she researched prosecutorial practices and racial justice initiatives.
