Emi Briggs / Staff Attorney

Emi joined as a Staff Attorney with Neufeld Scheck Brustin Hoffmann & Freudenberger in 2022.

Prior to joining NSBHF Emi worked at the New York City Council as Legislative Counsel. Emi spent her first two years at Council in the Bill Drafting Division drafting local legislation on various municipal issues including police reform, election reform, and addressing New York City’s COVID-19 response. Emi went on to serve as Committee Counsel to the New York City Council Committee on Higher Education and the Committee on Youth Services. In this role she served as a subject matter and legal expert on issues related to CUNY and the Department of Youth & Community Development.

Prior to the Council, Emi was an Associate at a mid-sized New York litigation firm where she focused on several types of complex commercial litigation including consumer class actions and government investigations. She was part of a team that represented the largest privately held spirits company in the world in a complex commercial/IP dispute involving a multi-year, multi-million-dollar exclusive marketing agreement with a major sports franchise. She was also a member of the team that successfully represented a major telecommunications service provider in defeating class certification in federal consumer class action involving state consumer protection claims.

Emi received her J.D. from NYU Law School, where her coursework focused on human rights and international law. Her activities included the Foreign Direct Investment Moot Court Team and she interned with the International Law Institute- African Center for Legal Excellence in Kampala, Uganda.
