Jackie Ochoa Acevedo / Paralegal

Jackie joined NSBHF as a Paralegal in 2024 after graduating from Smith College with a BA in Government and a minor in Spanish. While at Smith, she served as the Co-Chair of the Pre-Law Society where she hosted events like the mock law class, the Bar Association Panel and other events geared to helping underrepresented students with their pre-law journey. She also was part of the Latin American Student Organization (LASO) at Smith as the Conference Chair and Harvard LEAD student ambassador, where she got funding to take a group of 18 Latine students to the Harvard LEAD’s 2024 Conference to have access to a professional network for their development in every sector where Latines are underrepresented, especially for low-income and/or first-generation students.

Previously, Jackie worked at the Children’s Law Center (CLC) as the development intern. She assisted with their first annual benefit since the pandemic to continue supporting the wellbeing of DC’s children in foster care. She also worked for United States Senator Elizabeth Warren to fight for rights of underrepresented groups by working closely with the reproductive rights and immigration teams. Here Jackie drafted a memorandum in support of DACA recipients to have access to ACA and CHIP benefits. She also participated in the Sonia and Celina Sotomayor Program, where she interned for the Honorable Vera Scanlon of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York.

Jackie is committed and dedicated to pursuing a career in the law to help those whose civil liberties are at stake and continuing to represent the most vulnerable.
