Tony Balkissoon / Counsel

Tony Balkissoon is an experienced civil-rights litigator whose practice focuses on wrongful-conviction cases. Before joining NSBHF in January 2024, Tony was part of small trial teams that won $22-million and $15-million jury verdicts for wrongfully convicted clients—and helped defend both of those verdicts on appeal. He was also part of a small, non-profit appellate team that convinced the U.S. Supreme Court to reverse a federal appellate court whose recent decisions had made malicious-prosecution suits harder to bring. Tony has argued several civil-rights appeals and is regularly called on to help prepare other civil-rights litigators for appellate arguments. Tony has also successfully represented clients whose constitutional rights were violated while they were incarcerated.

At NSBHF, Tony focuses on complex legal writing from the complaint stage through the completion of appeals.
